Dr. Calbert Graham is a distinguished researcher in the field of forensic speech sciences, known for his pioneering work in computational modelling and automatic synthesis of speech. His research bridges the gap between linguistics and technology, providing innovative solutions to complex linguistic challenges.

Biography

Dr. Calbert R. Graham is a distinguished researcher and educator with expertise in linguistics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. His work focuses on developing innovative AI solutions for language learning and speech technology, with a particular emphasis on natural language processing and forensic speaker profiling. Dr. Graham's interdisciplinary approach integrates insights from linguistics, AI, and data science to tackle complex challenges in language technology. His contributions include the development of AI-driven speech rehabilitation tools and pioneering research in automated language assessment, reflecting his commitment to ethical AI development and practical applications in real-world settings. He is a member of the Phonetics & Phonology Research Group, the Computational Linguistics Research Group, and the Cambridge Language Sciences Strategic Initiative.

Formerly the Academic Director of the MSt in English Language Assessment at the University of Cambridge, Dr. Graham now serves as an Affiliated Lecturer in Computational Linguistics at the same institution. He holds an MPhil from the former Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics (RCEAL) and a PhD from the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (DTAL) at Cambridge. Dr. Graham has held prestigious roles such as Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow and Isaac Newton Trust Research Fellow and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and UC Berkeley. He previously studied for an MA in Applied Linguistics and Language Technology at Kyoto University as an International Monbusho Scholar. Additionally, he conducted learner speech corpus research as a postdoctoral research associate in the ALTA project. Dr. Graham is also the co-founder of SpeechAI and the founder of UK Global Technologies Partnership, where he advises on integrating AI in educational projects worldwide. His active engagement in the academic community, including contributions to journals, conferences, and media, underscores his influence in the fields of AI and linguistics.
